LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lincoln man involved in a Labor Day 2022 shootout at a McDonald’s was sentenced Friday.

Alexander Horse, 22, will spend five years in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm, the U.S. Attorney’s Office says.

U.S. District Judge John M. Gerrard also sentenced him to three years of post-prison supervised release.

The shooting happened Sept. 5, 2022, in the parking lot of the McDonald’s near 48th and Vine streets.

Horse was dropped off in the parking lot just after 3:30 a.m., then another car pulled up.

Two people got of the car and started shooting at Horse, authorities said.

Horse returned fire with a .25-caliber semiautomatic pistol, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

He was shot multiple times. The people who fired at him fled before police arrived.

A witness told police that Horse asked her to hide his gun.

Officers found the weapon in the witness’s car, and authorities said it was covered in Horse’s blood.

Police also recovered three bullet casings from the gun.

Horse had been released from prison eight months earlier, according to the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services.

He served almost three years for attempted burglary and terroristic threats and was still on supervised release when the shooting happened.

As a felon, he was prohibited from owning firearms.

But investigators said Horse possessed more than three, so his sentence was enhanced.
