Teen accused of second-degree assault in cutting at Lincoln High School

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A teen is accused of second-degree assault in a fight Thursday at Lincoln High School.

On Friday, police said the 14-year-old student was lodged in the Youth Detention Center on suspicion of second-degree assault and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.

During a fight, the teen slashed a 15-year-old in his arms and the chest and shoulder area, Assistant Police Chief Jason Stille said.

The victim left the school and went to an urgent care facility, according to Stille.

The other student had injuries “consistent with a knife slipping from his hand,” police said.

The SRO, Officer Nolan Hauser, gave him first aid.

Both students were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Lincoln Public Schools Superintendent Paul Gausman commended staff members for responding quickly.

“They also remained incredibly calm, and they supported the students, even the students who were not involved in this incident,” he said.
