Heating up for Father’s Day
Scattered severe storms brought rain, a lot of lightning, gusty winds and several tornado sightings across eastern Nebraska on Saturday.
Below are some of the storm reports as of about 9PM Saturday night, spanning the past 12 hours.
Heavy rainfall brought some flash flooding to northeast Nebraska, as over an estimated 3-5″ fell for some. Widespread rain was seen throughout most of Nebraska since midnight Saturday.
Other than maybe the thought of grills heating up on Father’s Day, it’ll be heating up in the temperature department as well. Temperatures climb into the upper 90s for what could be our hottest day of the year so far.
It’ll feel miserable, too. Humidity will make it feel closer to the lower 100s once more throughout the day during peak heating.
That puts our Heat Risk up to the “Major” category on Sunday. It’ll be an important day to remember this heat is dangerous – take frequent breaks in the shade, stay hydrated and wear lighter clothing if outdoors.
Monday, the Heat Risk upgrades to the “Extreme” category for some across southeast Nebraska.
This means rare, extremely dangerous heat for our area. Many could be affected by heat-related illnesses, so try to move activities to cooler times of the day (morning or late evening).
Storm chances also will be prevalent on and off throughout the upcoming week, including some isolated storms possible late Sunday into early Monday with a Marginal risk as seen below.
