Morning chance, pleasant until summer wins this weekend
Some thunderstorms flared up on radar this morning just west of Lincoln, dropping a little over a tenth of an inch from observations in York.
While Lincoln has missed out on this, more forcing from showers ongoing in north-central Kansas is expected to lift northeast and bring about more chances for some light rain by mid-morning. This could linger into the early afternoon.
The risk of severe weather continues day after day through the upcoming weekend. It remains on the lower end with a Marginal risk each day out west. That risk does expand more across northern Nebraska on Sunday. We’ll be keeping a mindful eye on this.
Today will amount to a fairly nice day for the start of the State Fair in Grand Island. After today… it won’t be so nice.
Southeast Nebraska especially will feel the heat and humidity as a summer pattern takes over this weekend. Highs will range from the middle and upper 90s to the lower 100s on Sunday for some. Sunday is expected to be the worst of this heat wave.
Signals pointing to this heat wave extending into Monday as well. The humidity will make each day feel that much worse with the dew point temperatures rising into the low to mid 70s.
The National Weather Service has hinted at leaning toward some heat advisories across the area this weekend in recent discussions. We’ll be sure to update you! In the meantime, stay cool with all the outdoor events like the State Fair and even the Air Show up in Bellevue over the weekend.
