LINCOLN, Ne. (KLKN) — A rural mail carrier was ejected in a crash in northeast Nebraska on Tuesday, authorities say.

The crash happened about 2:30 p.m. on Highway 275 about 2 miles east of Norfolk, according to the Stanton County Sheriff’s Office.

A minivan that was hauling mail was going east when it was hit by a semitrailer, which was also going east, the sheriff’s office said.

The impact sent the van rolling into the ditch, where it hit several trees.

The sheriff’s office said the driver, a 28-year-old Wisner man, was thrown from the van. He was flown to an Omaha hospital.

The driver of the semi was not injured.

Authorities closed the eastbound lanes of Highway 275 for more than two hours.

The U.S. Postal Service secured the mail that was in the van and the items that had spilled during the crash, the sheriff’s office said.
