Dip in temperatures early this week before warming
All of us are running rather low on total snowfall this season: a disappointing season so far for snow lovers.
Lincoln and Omaha have only recorded 1″ of snow this winter. Grand Island – not much better – has just under 3″ on the season.
Compared to normal through almost mid-January, each location is behind by at least 8-9″ of snow.
Lincoln is actually tied for the second lowest amount of snow on record through this point in the season. A couple years ago was similar (2022-23) when we had only 1.6″ through January 12th.
Monday starts out cold, following a day of falling temperatures and wind on Sunday. Temperatures will rise to around freezing this afternoon.
A few flurries will be possible late Monday night into Tuesday. Light snow showers may come together a bit more for those between O’Neill and Valentine tonight.
Temperatures fall to the middle 20s on Tuesday before warming to the upper 40s by Thursday. That warm up will be rather short-lived with arctic air looming this weekend.
Check out the temperature outlook for next Saturday through January 22nd. Not only will Nebraska be much colder than normal, most of the middle States will also be dealing with the cold as well.
Snow chances will continue to be rather meager through the middle of the month, too.
