LFR puts out fire at storage facility in west Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Firefighters extinguished a blaze Monday night at a storage facility in west Lincoln.

The fire was reported about 8:45 p.m. at Affordable Storage at Southwest Sixth and West A streets.

A Channel 8 reporter at the scene saw black smoke rising from one of the buildings and firefighters working on the roof.

Crews used a saw to get into one of the units, as seen in a video uploaded to the NOW Local News App.

About 9:20 p.m., Lincoln Fire & Rescue said the fire was under control.

Battalion Chief Jeremy Gegg said the fire started when someone was doing cutting work while working on a car.

A spark ignited a flammable liquid, and LFR said the fire spread to several units, causing $150,000 in damage to the building.

Gegg estimated that five to six storage units have fire damage and others have smoke damage.

The amount of damage to the contents is not yet clear, but Gegg said the contents in multiple units are either damaged or destroyed.

This is a developing story. Check with Channel 8 for the latest.
