The Storm Prediction Center has much of western and south-central Nebraska under a Slight (Level 2 out of 5) Risk. The main threats that we will continue to monitor are large hail and damaging winds. As of 8:30 p.m. CDT, Lincoln is now included in the Slight Risk.
The latest runs of Stormcast show a line of storms developing by 2 a.m. CDT Monday just to the south and west of the Tri-Cities. This line will progress to the east and arrive south of Lincoln, close to 4 a.m. CDT. These storms will be capable of large hail and damaging winds, particularly during the early stages of formation. Be sure to have a way to receive weather alerts during the overnight hours.
Forecast:
Southeastern Nebraska received some much-needed rain early Sunday morning, with some areas seeing localized values upwards of 1-2″! Despite the latest rounds of storms, Lincoln still remains approximately an inch and a half below average for the month of June and seven inches below average for precipitation from January 1 – June 30, according to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Climate Data.
Sunday morning’s rain and a northerly wind shift did help cool us off here in the Capital City. We’ll see mostly cloudy skies tonight with lows in the upper 60s. Your morning commute could be accompanied by showers and thunderstorms as we start the work week.
High temperatures will remain mild in the mid-80s with partly cloudy skies. Winds out of the north will feel pleasant compared to the hot and humid days we saw this weekend.
We will heat up before Independence Day, returning to the 90s on Wednesday. For the 4th, highs will be in the mid-90s with storm chances in the evening. Next weekend cools down just a little bit before the mid-90s return for the middle part of July.
