Storms likely; significant severe threat for western and northern Nebraska Monday

Southeast Nebraska has potential for a couple rounds of storms Monday afternoon and late Monday night. But there’s a significant severe threat possible for western and northern Nebraska by Monday afternoon and evening as well.

Precipitation Probability

The afternoon chance would be a weaker round of scattered storms – if we see it. Some small hail and gusty winds could come with these storms, but there’s more of a severe threat with the later/overnight round.

Pm Storms

For the first time in three weeks, an Enhanced (Level 3 of 5) risk is in place for parts of Nebraska. Specifically for western and northern Nebraska, all hazards are on the table with significant severe weather possible.

Southeast Nebraska is included in a Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk for severe weather through Monday night for the threat of some damaging winds and hail.

Spc Mon 1130am

An isolated tornado threat is possible in western and central Nebraska tonight.

Tor

Hail will be possible, though the probabilities for significant hail have dropped with the latest update from the Storm Prediction Center.

Hail

Significant damaging wind gusts (75 mph+) will be the main concern in western, central and northern Nebraska where the area of black hash marks is below.

Damaging Wind

One area of storms through western Nebraska moves from west to east, meeting another cluster moving south-southeast out of South Dakota. It’s that second cluster that persists longer into the overnight hours, threatening severe weather across eastern Nebraska late.

Temperatures gradually warm this week, turning mostly dry by the second half of Tuesday and Wednesday.

Week Ahead

We’ll end up in the 90s again by the middle to end of this week with more storm chances by Thursday.
