Nebraska breaks out the brooms, sweeps No. 12 USC at home

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Nebraska baseball capped off a surreal weekend, defeating No. 12 USC Sunday, 16-6.

The Huskers won back-to-back games by 10+ runs, sweeping the Trojans.

At first, Nebraska found themselves in an early deficit. USC scored five runs, including two home-runs in the first two innings.

Sophomore Gavin Blachowicz pitched two innings, giving up four ER on five hits.

Ty Horn came into relieve, and did more than just that. He threw five innings, striking out four and only allowing one earned run.

Nebraska’s bats got going in the fourth inning. After two straight singles to start, Mac Moyer launched a three run HR on the first pitch swinging.

It gave the Cornhuskers their first lead, 6-5. From then on, Nebraska’s offense exploded. They scored a combined 12 runs in just the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, capped off by a Drew Grego grand slam.

The Huskers totaled 14 hits on the afternoon, and scored a season high in runs.

Nebraska now improves to 31-9, and goes a perfect 4-0 on the week. It’s their first sweep over a ranked team since 2015.

The Huskers will now travel South to face No. 18 Kansas Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
