Practice Report: Husker assistants talk progress following second practice
"We are back on the grass doing things we love to do," said tight ends coach Sean Beckton. "Being outside, playing football, coaching football, being around the guys. It's been great the last two days."

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — For the first time since 2020, in-person interviews were held at Memorial Stadium for Husker football following the team’s second practice of the spring.
Assistant coaches took to the podium and are excited for the progress being made so far.
“We are back on the grass doing things we love to do,” said tight ends coach Sean Beckton. “Being outside, playing football, coaching football, being around the guys. It’s been great the last two days.”
Outside linebackers coach Mike Dawson was a popular man on Wednesday after he was named the Huskers’ new special teams coordinator by head coach Scott Frost earlier this week.
“We are working a bunch of guys, that’s one of the great things having a roster the size we have,” Dawson said. “A lot of guys are going to be in good competition. I hope the guys who have experience use that to their advantage and the younger guys that are hungry for that position, I want them to fight and take steps up that ladder too.”
The Nebraska defense will be a top story to watch this spring and when the fall rolls around. The Huskers return six “super seniors” to the roster, including three of the Big Ten’s top defensive backs.
“I want to be the top secondary in the country here at this school,” said defensive backs coach Travis Fisher. “Those kids are good football players, and I think those guys can be some of the top guys in the country.”
And so far, the Huskers continue to impress their coaches.
“These guys are hungry to get their name right and earn their stripes,” Dawson said. “There’s good intensity. There are mistakes, those are going to happen. As long as they are happening in full speed, we can handle that and keep on moving from there.”
Nebraska continues practice on Friday. We will hear from offensive players and coaches following Monday’s practice.
