LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Nebraska State Patrol on Wednesday said it removed 65 impaired drivers from the road during its annual “Make It Click” campaign.

During the campaign, which ran from May 15 through June 1, troopers also issued 1,616 speeding tickets — including 47 citations for speeding at over 100 mph — 80 no seat belt citations, 23 citations for improper child restraint, 53 tickets for open alcohol containers, 23 tickets for minor in possession, 85 citations for driving under suspension and 11 citations for failing to move over.

Troopers also performed 317 motorist assists during the campaign.

“The summer travel season is officially underway, and roadways will be busy across the state,” said Colonel Bryan Waugh, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “While our troopers are constantly on patrol to keep Nebraska roads safe, teamwork is paramount with the motoring public as well. Always drive safe and drive sober.”

The campaign is a nationwide effort involving numerous police agencies.

Nebraska’s portion was funded by the Nebraska Department of Transportation – Highway Safety Office.
