LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska State Patrol on Friday identified the two victims of a fatal crash in Furnas County.

The crash happened Thursday at the intersection of U.S. Highway 283 and Nebraska Highway 89, about 12 miles south of Arapahoe.

Around 12:15 p.m., an SUV was heading north, when a westbound pickup truck ran through a stop sign and crashed into the SUV.

A passenger of the SUV, 46-year-old Miriam Mejia Barrientos, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Four other SUV occupants, including 13-year-old Sloan Luna Portillo, were taken to local hospitals in critical condition.

Portillo, who was flown to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, was later pronounced dead, the patrol said.

The driver of the pickup, 28-year-old Kyiaz Ulanov of Washington, and his passenger suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, the patrol said.

After his release from the hospital, Ulanov was arrested on suspicion of two counts of motor vehicle homicide and willful reckless driving.
