A brief spin-up tornado remains possible, mainly north of Interstate 80. There is greater concern for hail between golf ball and tennis ball size, as well as wind gusts up to 65 miles per hour in the strongest storms that move through the area.
Here is the latest run of StormCast showing storms starting up after midnight along and north of I-80 in southeast Nebraska. However, models have fluctuated on where they think storms will initiate. If they begin further south, that would be a greater concern for those in Lincoln.
We are also monitoring the potential for strong to severe storms on Saturday afternoon and evening. This could have an impact on outdoor plans in Lincoln, such as the Savannah Bananas game at Memorial Stadium. Stay tuned to the latest forecast.
Forecast:
We will be down in the middle to upper 60s for low temperatures in southeast Nebraska on Thursday morning. The western half of the state, however, will see temperatures reach the lower 50s.
Mostly cloudy skies tonight in Lincoln with storm chances increasing after midnight. A couple of storms may be strong to severe.
Highs on Thursday will be much cooler statewide, ranging from the lower 70s to the lower 80s.
We could see a few lingering showers for the start of the day in the Capital City, but expect skies to clear by Thursday afternoon.
Temperatures fluctuate over the next couple of days before settling into the lower 70s for the end of the weekend and into the start of next week. The cooler temperatures should give us relief from the hot and humid past couple of days. Outside of chances for scattered storms on Saturday, the extended forecast looks dry.
