Nebraska State Patrol responds to over 100 weather-related incidents on Christmas

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Winter weather kept first responders busy on Christmas.

Nebraska State Patrol said it responded to nearly 150 weather-related incidents, including 28 crashes across the state on Monday.

They also performed 117 motorist assists.

Luckily, NSP said most of the accidents weren’t serious. However, several caused delays on Interstate 80.

That included a multi-vehicle crash on I-80 near York. It shutdown eastbound traffic for several hours after a number of semis collided.

NSP says there were no injuries in that crash.

A busy day for local first responders as well.

The Merrick County Sheriff’s Office said it responded to a rollover accident on Monday that sent two people to the hospital.

The sheriff said a pickup Ford F-150 was traveling west on Highway 30 when it lost control and overturned due to ice roads.

The two occupants were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities said seatbelts were used during the accident.

Meanwhile, the Stanton County Sheriff’s Office said it responded to several accidents on Monday, including another rollover.

The sheriff said an SUV slid off of Highway 275 near Pilger and hit a snow embankment and rolled onto its side.

The occupants were treated for minor injuries at the scene.
