Patchy morning fog in eastern Nebraska; typical January day ahead

The conditions are right for patchy areas of dense fog. The worst of it will be in northeast and southeast corners of the state early Wednesday. Areas under a Dense Fog Advisory can expect visibilities as low as a quarter mile through noon Wednesday.

Noon Adv

For southeast Nebraska, fog could become especially dense in and around sunrise before improving by Wednesday afternoon. Some cloud cover later on that creeps in from the north may drop a few flurries.

Model Visibility

This will keep temperatures colder on Wednesday. Comparing yesterday to today, temperatures will drop off by about 10 degrees with highs close to the middle 30s.

Dma Today High

Temperatures today are on par for what we normally see in early January. In fact, average high temperatures do not vary much over the course of the month – beginning to end. That matches up with our forecast through early next week. After Tuesday and if there’s some added snow cover, highs are expected to be even colder.

Next Month Stats 2

We’ve got a couple more quiet days in store with temperatures not varying all that much. More cloud cover through the end of the week, too.

The next potential wave will bring a scattered, small chance for rain/snow on Friday.

Jess 3day Gma

After the first wave, some light snow will be possible again on Saturday. Accumulations from Friday and Saturday will be minimal, while better chances at accumulating snow still look possible into early next week. The stronger system and how it tracks late Sunday into Monday could lead to a late mix transitioning to snow throughout Monday, leading into Tuesday.

Models have been flipping a lot more with the track of this system, so I’m holding off on showing any more of those possibilities until later this week.
