Toasty Thursday temperatures & PM thunderstorms 5/12/2022

We are off to a stuffy and warm start this morning with temperatures in the low 70s and relative humidity values above 70%. I highly recommend wearing summer clothes out the door, because they will come in handy later today. Temperatures will quickly warm into the afternoon, and eventually highs will reach the low to mid-90s. Thankfully, we could see some heat relief in the form of increasing wind speeds and lower relative humidity values. Wind gusts will be above 30 mph for a majority of the afternoon and evening with more of a dry heat likely as well. Our focus turns from heat to thunderstorms by the late afternoon and evening today. Thunderstorms will bubble up in central NE around 4 PM and gradually inch eastward into the evening. Some of these storms could be on the strong to severe side. They will start off discrete and with mainly hail as the biggest threat, but eventually they will form into a line. Once this line develops, our main concern will be strong wind gusts with the potential for some tornadic activity. Storms likely will weaken by the time they reach Lincoln, but we still have the potential for warnings to be thrown out. Make sure you have several ways to receive updates later today! Temperatures gradually cool back into spring mid to upper 70s next week with scattered rain chances.
